To Leave Home

I have come to realize that I really like not living at home. I think there is a time in every person's life that they feel the need to get out and leave home... experience new places and people. Ironically, I picked up the book "Thousand Painted Deserts" the other day by Donald Miller... never having read one of his books. In it he has left home... traveling with a friend to who knows where and searching for answers in his heart the whole time. He says something that is very profound to me.

"Its interesting how you sometimes have to leave home before you can ask difficult questions, how the questions never come up in the room you grew up in, in the town in which you were born." -Donald Miller (Through Painted Deserts)

I feel exactly the same way. Whether it was in kenya- where every experience was new.. and every face I encountered had a different and hard story... or here in Springfield where I have to learn to get by on my own and be responsible. I feel the same as good ole' Don.

And today is beautiful.. in the 60's during August.. can you believe it? It makes me smile and now I will make pancakes in honor of it..

In Christ,
Em

definitely. The time we spend away from home really gives us a chance to figure stuff out ourselves. Our fams love us, they want what is best for us...but sometimes they don't realize the best way for us to learn is to go through it ourselves.
Although we should definitely heed to their remarks about their mistakes in the past, the best teachers are our mistakes or mentors [learning from their mistakes]

I'm excited to see what God will do with you this year as you embark on your last year in college! This past summer away, I was actually able to grow closer to my family. And being at home now has been FUN and not as "unbearable" as it had been in the past [w/ disagreements etc..] After all, our home should be our haven...if we treat others better than our own Fam, are we really living as Christ did?

Anyways, that's a "so true" passage from ol' Don. :) Thanks for posting your thoughts. I still feel connected to you....via internet! hahah.
