I was driving back to springfield this morning and I saw a dead deer laying on the side of the road. My first impulse is to dry heave, of course. Then I try to get it out of my memory.
But this time it stuck with me.
My strange mind led me to a different train of thought.
Humans were not made to be roadkill.
This may sound ridonkulus.. but you will be seeing it my way in a few seconds.
The media, the people striving to be stars, the fashion industry, movies, tv shows, America, humanity... are all telling us that it is a dog-eat-dog sort of world. In order to get ahead we have to fight/claw/bite our way to the top. We have to earn our greatness. Unfortunately, if we are weak then we get left on the side of the road, and the vultures circle above us.. no help from anyone.
This is what the world tells us. We are roadkill.
I think that's the greatest thing about Christianity.. the idea that we can't make it on our own. First off, we need Jesus.. that's a given. We also need a faith that is solid, since our God is physically unseen. Love is one of the greatest factors as well.. we were created to love one another.. which leads me to the point of this strange analogy.
We are the only creatures on earth to have a soul and a heart to show compassion. A christ follower is meant to scoop up the hurting person alongside the road and place them in the backseat of their car.. drive them along the road of life until they are strong enough to drive themselves.
It is even sweeter though, because on this road there is a steady flow of people.. When someone wrecks or gets stranded... because we all do every now and then. There is no survival of the fittest in God's view of His children.
No roadkill to be trampled upon...
I told you this was a strange thought.. but these are the things that come to me on a boring drive...
and I am definitely okay with that.

I like your strange thoughts :)
Living in the land of perpetual roadkill, your musings are amazingly accurate and helpful! What a great picture for me to keep in my mind whenever I see another roadkill critter! Thanks for the encouragement!
